St. Bebe of Baton Rouge
Bebe Partout was born in the rural town of Sunshine in Iberville Parish, Louisiana.
Little is known of her childhood, which seems to have ended prematurely when she became
an exotic dancer at age fifteen. By her eighteenth year, Bebe was a regional star in and
around Baton Rouge. Soon it was discovered that her dancing held strange curative powers
for animals. For a brief time she headlined on the big money, bright lights, tent revival
circuit. But, she left when she felt her art was suffering. Bebe’s nephew, Armand, fondly
remembers the day his aunt was dancing naked in a pasture to the accompaniment of Red
Nickels and his Five Pennies on an old Victrola. An entire herd of cattle and five
pigs were cured of hoof and mouth disease.
